Children’s Hospice South West

Make Some Noise will help fund the vital care provided at Children's Hospice South West Charlton Hayes, which is a member of Together for Short Lives.

Simple pursuits, which many healthy families take for granted, can be enjoyed at Charlton Farm. The whole family is cared for allowing them time together without the pressure of everyday life, helping families like Joel’s.

Joel was diagnosed with Lissencephaly when he was just 8 months out, leaving him profoundly physically and mentally disabled. He requires 24 hour care and suffers from regular seizures.

Joel’s mum, Rachel, discusses her experiences, “I have total confidence in the fabulous care team looking after Joel and he gets to enjoy the Jacuzzi, sensory room, messy play, wheelchair swing and have lots of trips out and about. Joel’s 14 year old sister, Zara, has spent lots of time with the sibling team – going to the cinema, the Bristol Balloon Festival, Noah’s Ark, and many other outings, not to mention time just chilling in the games room. Ruby is only 2 years old and has fun in messy play, soft play and out in the garden with the sibling team.

“Joel’s grandma has also stayed at Charlton Farm, which allowed Zara and I to go shopping! Joel’s Grandma and Grandpa are staying again in August while I take Zara on a 3-night break to London. This kind of flexibility from the hospice is amazing and makes such a difference to our family.

“I used the hospice for an emergency stay for Joel when I fractured my ankle and was in plaster for over 6 weeks. Joel was able to stay at the hospice, which helped immeasurably. Each time we come to Charlton Farm we also enjoy the delicious home cooked meals prepared by the brilliant kitchen team. As a mum, not having to cook during the stay is heaven!”
