A Huntingdon man, who tried to kill a woman as she slept in her bed with her young son nearby, has been jailed.
44 year old Peter Semourson, from Silver Birch Close in Huntingdon, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Peterborough Crown Court yesterday.
He broke into the woman's home at 5am on July 27th last year.
Then, he tried to suffocate her with a pillow.
When she resisted, he slashed at her with a knife.
Detective Inspector Martin Brunning, who led the investigation, said: "This was a wicked attack on a young mother in her own home, while her seven year old boy was just two feet away.
She received horrific injuries and was lucky to survive.
However, the effects on both victims will be lasting and significant.
We're delighted with the sentence as it is a true reflection of the seriousness of this crime. We continue to work with the victim and her son."
