Residents of a South Cambridgeshire village were warned to keep doors and windows closed, due to a large fire in a field.

Around 40 firefighters were called to tackle flames in a field at Caxton End, Eltisley.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are dealing with a fire, which is affecting an area of about 10 acres, with 200sqm of standing crops.

They are tackling the fire using hose reels and beaters.

As there is a plume of smoke coming from the fire, members of the public who are nearby are being urged to stay inside and to keep their windows and doors closed as a precautionary measure."

The fire was extinguished by 6pm.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service say the fire was accidental, and broke out in machinery.
