Extra police officers are patrolling a Cambridgeshire village, after hundreds of travellers gathered there for a religious festival.

More than 200 caravans arrived on the field in Swavesey at the weekend, and are expected to remain there until Friday or Saturday.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Police said: "There have been no real problems but we have met villagers and want to allay their concerns.''

The travellers were given permission to use the field in the village by the owner of the land.

A meeting between South Cambridgeshire District Council, the parish council and local residents was held last night.
