Almost a year on from a street robbery in Colchester, Essex police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to.

A 37-year-old woman was punched in the face by a man on Queen Street who then stole an envelope from her which contained a four-figure sum of cash.

The man then ran off after the incident, which happened shortly before 9:30pm on Friday, January 21, 2011, as a result of a passing motorist stopping to assist.

Investigating Officer, Dc Claire Jennings, said: "We are only just releasing this CCTV for operational and practical reasons. At the time, a train commuter came forward with a potential name for the attacker but this did not tally up with the image we later secured from a nearby business. In addition, due to security reasons revolving around the sensitivity of the business, we have only just been able to issue these images."

The offender is described as black, approximately 5ft 6ins tall and was wearing a black hoody, beanie hat and blue jeans at the time.

A 35-year-old man from Wivenhoe, who was arrested a short time after the robbery, was subsequently released without charge.

The 37-year-old victim, who lives locally, visited Colchester General Hospital the following day (Saturday, January 22) where she was treated for a minor facial injury.

Anyone with information in connection with this robbery is urged to contact detectives at Colchester police station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
