Heart's charity Have a Heart
Have a Heart is Heart's own charity, and our aim is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children living in our local communities.
Have a Heart works with national charity partners who make a difference in the areas that we broadcast to.
Currently we're supporting ChildLine, the free phone and online service offering advice and support to children who may feel they have nowhere else to turn.
One child calls ChildLine every five minutes, and the number of calls is on the increase. Plus with the introduction of the online service, even more children are contacting the service. These calls come from all over the country, with almost 47,000 coming from the South West between April 2010 and March 2011. Money raised by Have a Heart will be used to fund the recruitment, training and support of more volunteer counselors, to ensure that when a child calls, ChildLine is there to answer.
Throughout the year there are loads of ways that our listeners can get involved and raise money with us for Have a Heart. The highlight is the annual Have a Heart Appeal, which launches in January every year. The Appeal is six weeks of fun & fundraising, with auctions of some stunning money-can't-buy prizes, special features such as our Appeal '12 sitcom Strange Hill, and loads of our celeb friends dropping by to lend their support.
For the more adventurous there are our overseas treks, such as Trek China 2013. This ten day trek along The Great Wall of China will be an experience that you'll never forget, plus you'll be raising money for Have a Heart supporting ChildLine!
And throughout the next year we'll have lots more ways that you can get involved, and you'll find all the details here at heart.co.uk
