The Volunteer of the Year is Rosemary Bentley
The Nomination
Rosemary first volunteered at St Catherine's Hospice in September 1985 - and has been coming every week ever since. Her unstinting loyalty, consistency and calm manner benefits both patients and staff alike. In fact, in this time her diary reveals she has given over 3,300 hours in voluntary service to St Catherine's.
Her role has changed over the years, and 73 year old Rosemary, an ex-nurse from Norwood Hill, first helped by doing bereavement counselling visits for a number of years. She has been helping on the wards for over 20 years and duties have included helping make beds, reading to patients and assisting the nurses with their duties. Currently, she comes every Monday to update all the flower arrangements in reception and at the patient's bedsides.
