One biker has died and a second is critical in hospital after two separate crashes in Dorset.

At 3pm on Wednesday (9 July 2014), Dorset Police were called to attend a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a motorbike on the A352 outside the Red Lion Hotel in Winfrith Newburgh.

A red Kawasaki Z550 motorcycle, traveling in the direction of Dorchester, collided with a white Skoda Citigo travelling in the opposite direction. The rider of the motorbike, a 52-year-old man from Wool, died at the scene.

Dorset Police, as well as appealing for witnesses to the collision, would also like to speak to the driver of a small blue car that was turning left into Water Lane around the same time as the crash.

The driver of this vehicle is not wanted for any offences, but may have information that can help with the investigation. The driver is asked to contact PC Dave Stroud of Dorset Police’s Traffic Unit on 101 as soon as possible.

Witnesses and anyone with information about the manner of driving of the two vehicles prior to the incident are asked to call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 09:287.

Meanwhile, a man is seriously ill in hospital after a crash on Dorset Way in Poole.

The 28-year-old, from the Bulford area, was found unconscious near Tower Park just after 4pm on Wednesday, and taken to Poole Hospital.
