Bridport: Man Arrested After Sword Drama

A 53-year-old man's been arrested after armed police were called to a house in Bridport.

Police have recovered a sword after the drama in Fouracre Close this morning (Friday Jul 11).

A police spokesperson said:

"At 10.40am today Dorset Police received a report of an incident at an address on Fouracre Close in Bridport.

"It was alleged that an assault had taken place at the scene prior to police being called. When officers arrived they were refused entry by a male occupant who was seen brandishing a sharp object and appeared upset.

"Armed officers and the ambulance service also attended as a precautionary measure.

"Trained negotiators spoke to the man for a number of hours asking him to come out, however he continued to refuse.

"At 1.15pm specialist public order trained officers forced an entry to the house and arrested a 53-year-old local man on suspicion of assault and a sword was recovered."
