Carey Mulligan 'Exhausted' By Dorset Filming

Hollywood film star Carey Mulligan has revealed that shooting Far From The Madding Crowd in Dorset has left her exhausted.

The Oscar-nominated Shame star, who portrays Bathsheba Everdene in a new adaptation of Thomas Hardy's novel, admitted the early starts and the outdoor scenes are taking it out of her.

"I am enjoying it so much, it's brilliant. It's outside a lot. Seventy per cent of the film is fields, exteriors and outdoorsy things, which is really great but it's cold and really tiring,'' the 28-year-old said.

Mulligan, who is married to Mumford And Sons' frontman Marcus Mumford, stars in David Nicholls's big-screen version alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Tom Sturridge, Michael Sheen and Juno Temple.

Filming the blockbuster has seen Sherborne transformed into a movie set as it doubles as the fictional town of Casterbridge, with Mulligan seen wearing Victorian costume.

A Victorian market has been created outside the abbey with shops on Half Moon Street having their frontages transformed to fit the era.

Work in the town for the Thomas Vinterberg-directed film has included re-dressing shop windows and covering the grass outside the abbey with gravel.

In August, hundreds of people auditioned in Bridport for the open casting of the film, where extras including bearded men who could shear sheep and women with natural hair were sought to play farm workers from the 1840s.

Filming has already taken place in Mapperton in the county, with a cinema release planned for spring 2014.

Hardy was born in Dorset and lived most of his life in the county, writing novels and poems.
