Chance To Swap Homes In Christchurch

27 January 2014, 06:11

People in social housing in Christchurch and East Dorset are getting the chance to swap homes today.

Residents who want to downsize as a result of the bedroom tax or who need a larger home, should come along to the event at Somerford Primary School on Monday 27 January between 6pm and 8pm.

The event, which follows a successful mutual exchange event organised by Purbeck District Council in December, is being organised by Sovereign Housing Association, in partnership with Raglan Housing, Spectrum Housing, Synergy Housing and Christchurch Borough Council and East Dorset District Council.

Winston Nelson, Sovereign's Regional Housing Manager, said:

"In light of welfare reform, we have been working closely with our residents to help them find the solution that suits them best.

"While the 'bedroom tax' has left some needing to downsize to a more affordable home, there are still families that are growing and looking for larger homes. These mutual exchange events give residents from a number of local landlords the chance to meet and speak with other residents who would like to exchange.

"Residents with homes of all sizes are invited to come along and showcase their property. This is a great opportunity for them to seek advice from staff of the different housing associations and to begin finding a new home that suits their needs."

Anyone who would like to advertise their property or attend the event please call Sovereign Housing Association on 01202 460460 and ask to speak with Alison Caves, Tenancy Support Advisor.
