Double Fireworks Display Over Bournemouth Piers

10,000 people are expected to line the clifftops between Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers tonight for a special double fireworks show.

There will be synchronised displays over both piers at 10pm, to mark the start of the annual Friday Family Fiestas.

It's not been done for 15 years.

Jon Weaver from Bournemouth Borough Council said:

"It's quite a difficult thing to do and costs a bit, but we got some sponsorship this year for this one-off opportunity.

"You get your best view not on the beach but actually on the clifftops, somewhere between the two piers. Then you can see the full impact of the display."

It marks the start of the Friday Family Fiesta which runs every Friday evening to 22 August, offering entertainment including fireworks, circus workshops and shows, fire performances, stilt walkers and more.

The free Kids Family Fun Festival in the Lower Gardens provides art workshops, performing magicians, jesters, puppet workshops, comedy, party games and more - everyday from 11am - 5pm from 28 July - 24 August.

After a successful first year 'Onstage at Pier Approach' will be returning to entice the crowds with a fantastic live events programme. Expect to see an eclectic mix of dance, live music and movies between 28 July and 24 August. Completely free and by the sea, the space enables viewers to enjoy entertainment with the backdrop of Bournemouth's award-winning scenery.

Candlelight Nights will be back to magically illuminate the Lower Gardens from the 30th July through to 20th August. One of Bournemouth's oldest traditions, the candles are lit at dusk - a charming custom the whole family can take part in.

The Bournemouth Air Festival is returning for its seventh year from 28 - 31 August. It will include aerial performances, naval beach assaults, live music and seafront trading. And for the first time ever this year will see the Red Arrows display over all four days of the festival, plus the return of the iconic Eurofighter Typhoon and Avro Vulcan XH558.

Bringing a close to the diverse programme of summer entertainment will be the Arts by the Sea Festival offering over 200 events from 26 September to 12 October. This year's theme of 'On the Edge' will be explored through live music, performance, sound and visual installations and films held across a variety of Bournemouth venues.
