Police are trying to find out who wrecked 25 graves at a cemetery in Dorset.

Officers say it happened sometime between Friday 25 January at 3pm and the same time on Saturday 26 January 2013 at Poole Cemetery on Dorchester Road.

Some of the headstones which have either been knocked over or defaced were those of young children.

Police Sergeant Ray Willmore, of Poole police, said:

“I would like to speak with anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in this area.

“This damage has caused untold stress for the relatives who have loved ones buried at the cemetery.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated and I am appealing for anyone with any information to contact police urgently. Any calls will be dealt with in confidence.”

A 23-year-old man from Poole has been arrested and is currently helping police with their enquiries.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101.
