A man has died in hospital after he was hit by a train in Poole.

It happened at Parkstone Station just before 9.30am.

Power to both tracks was quickly turned off to allow emergency crew to get to the injured man, who was said to be still alive under the train (which was operating as the 9.13 Poole to Southampton Central service).

He was freed about ten minutes later and taken to Poole Hospital under police escort, however by 10am he was pronounced dead.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said:

“BTP officers attended Parkstone railway station in Poole today, Thursday, 3 June after a report that a man had been struck by a train.

“The man was taken to hospital by the South Western Ambulance Service, where he later died.

“Dorset Police officers also attended the incident, and it's currently being treated as non-suspicious.

“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”

The man has yet to be identified.
