A 29-year-old Bournemouth woman, told officers that a man had taken her pram, which had her baby inside, and pushed it along a shop aisle on the ground floor of the store before being stopped by her.
Police Constable Jo Morgan, of Bournemouth police, said "After the incident the offender followed the mother for a short while before she used the lift to another store level".
"The victim believes that the man had also followed her around the shop before the incident".
He is described as white, in his late forties to early fifties, over six feet tall and of average build. He has dark medium length hair and was wearing a trench coat.
PC Morgan continued "I am appealing for any witnesses to this incident and anyone with information about the man responsible to contact police. I would also like to hear from anyone who may have experienced a similar incident to call Dorset Police on 101".
