Massive Fire Behind Dorset Bakery

A fire broke out at a Bakery in Dorset.

Crews were called to the George's Bakery on East Street in Bridport about 5.41am on Tuesday April 12th.

The fire was located behind the shop in an accommodation area where the bakers daughter was sleeping at the time. Luckily her Dad discovered the blaze and woke her and she escaped unhurt.

At its height, police had to close the road and around 35 firef-ighters tackled the blaze, with crew still in attendance just before 10am.

A Dorset fire service spokeswoman said:

"The fire has taken hold of the whole roof and fire crews are working hard to prevent it spreading any further using hose reel and main jets.

"We will be making an entry shortly, as soon as it is safe to do so, to ascertain damage.

"The bakery is open as usual as it is not affected by the fire.

"Crews are currently removing roof tiles to gain access to the fire from above."
