Pensioner Robbed In Blandford

Police in Blandford are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a distraction burglary at the home of an elderly man in the town.

The incident happened at around 7.45pm on Friday 20 April 2012 in the Heddington Drive area.
 
The 97-year old victim was targeted by a man in his twenties, described as very slim with dark hair, who pushed his way inside his home claiming he owed money for gardening work.
 
Once inside, the offender distracted the victim by saying there was somebody else at his door – a quantity of cash was then stolen from a wallet.
 
Detective Constable Tracey Cambridge of County CID said, “This was a cowardly and wicked offence on an elderly gentleman,who is undoubtedly shocked as a result. 
 
“I am appealing for witnesses and would urge residentsto be extra vigilant, and always check the identification of anybody calling attheir door they feel unsure about”.
