It's been revealed a pilot who died in a plane crash near Sturminster Newton last summer was making a 'charity flight' to raise money for his village church.

A report by the Air Accident Investigation Branch (AAIB) found that 63-year-old Hugh Wilson from Wiltshire made a mayday call moments before his light aircraft struck telegraph cables during an attempted forced landing following an engine failure.

Wilson died at the scene of the accident at Staunton Caundle on the afternoon of May 24 last year while his passenger Emma Kenrick-Piercy who is 25 and also from Wiltshire, was seriously injured.

It was the fourth of six flights Mr Wilson, also from Hindon, had planned for the day.
