Applications to rent beach huts in Poole reopen today for the first time in seven years.
Borough of Poole's beach hut waiting list will reopen and remain open to Poole residents from 12pm on Tuesday 14 January.
Following the 2012 beach hut review it was decided by councillors that the beach hut waiting list for Poole would reopen in 2014 having been closed for seven years. It was felt the time was right to reopen the list as the number of people waiting for a beach hut has significantly reduced and the council is proposing to build 79 new beach huts in various areas along the beach during 2014 and 2015.
The new online waiting list has been divided into seven areas, Sandbanks, Shore Road, Flaghead, Canford Cliffs, Branksome Chine, Branksome Dene and Hamworthy (site only). From 14 January the number of people on each waiting list will be available for residents to view before deciding which list they wish to join. Residents can join as many waiting lists as they wish, but there is a fee of £25 for each list you join.
On Tuesday 14 January 2014 the list will open starting with Sandbanks (pictured), followed by Shore Road a week later, Flaghead, Canford Cliffs, Branksome Chine, Branksome Dene and Hamworthy (site only), all staggered one week at a time.
The new online application will be available to join at www.boroughofpoole.com/beachhuts
Councillor Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation, Borough of Poole, said:
"Being able to invite our residents to join the waiting list for a beach hut at one of Poole's fantastic beaches is long overdue.
"Poole's beaches are one of our biggest assets and while we cannot offer people a beach hut immediately, I am delighted to be able to reopen the waiting list, after seven years this is really is a great step forward."
A Borough of Poole spokesman said:
"The cost of an annual licence for a Poole beach hut varies depending upon the location of the beach. Costs range from £1,130.00 to £1,764.00.
"Short term hires are also available – again costs vary depending on type of beach hut and time of year.
"A full tariff of charges, both annual licence fee and short term hire, are available on our website boroughofpoole.com."
The council says if residents are unable to gain access to the internet their Customer Service Team will be available to help on 01202 708181.
Alternatively, residents can join the list by visiting the beach office where the team will be on hand to help, and there is a computer for residents to use free of charge.
