A man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a teenager, thought to be living in Dorset has been found in Southampton.

West Mercia Constabulary said Thomas Anthony Fleet was arrested by police in Southampton yesterday following information received from members of the public.

The 22-year-old was then brought back to Shropshire and last night was charged with rape - its after a teenage girl was assaulted in a house in a Shropshire village during October last year (2009).

Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff, of the West Mercia force, thanked all those who responded to an appeal to trace Fleet.

The officer said: "As a result of that, we received a very good response and a man, later confirmed as Thomas Fleet, was arrested in the Southampton area by Hampshire Police yesterday.

"I wish to thank the public, especially all those who called in, for their assistance with our appeal."
