Suspected Arson Attack On Barn Near Dorchester

At about 10.40pm on 30th August 2010, firecrews were called to a barn fire between Longbredy and Littlebredy near Dorchester.

Two crews from Dorchester, a crew from Maiden Newton and a crew from Bridport attended the scene within 15 minutes.

Due to the presence of asbestos and the barn and contents being fully engulfed in fire, firefighters placed a cooling jet of water onto an adjoining premise to prevent the fire from spreading. The barn was then allowed to burn in a controlled manner.

30 tonnes of straw and hay was damaged at this incident - crews were still on scene on Tuesday working to save the adjacent building. Dorset Fire and Rescue believe the cause was deliberate.
