Taxi Driver Jailed For Sex Attacks

A Bournemouth taxi driver has been jailed for 16 years’ imprisonment for raping two passengers.

Terence Collins, 61, was sentenced on Friday 26 July for raping a 14-year-old girl and raping and sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman.

The court heard how in March 2010 he followed his young victim before forcing her into his car. He took her to another location where he raped her before returning her to her home address.

Two years later he raped and sexually assaulted another victim after she entered his taxi in Bournemouth to go home following a night out with a friend.

On Thursday 30 May 2013 he was found guilty of two charges of rape and one of sexual assault at Bournemouth Crown Court.

Detective Constable James Lees, of Bournemouth and Poole CID, said:

“This conviction came after a thorough investigation by Dorset Police’s CID department for Bournemouth and Poole.

“Terence Collins abused the position of trust that he held as a taxi driver and preyed on vulnerable woman. It is thanks to the bravery of two of his victims that this conviction and sentence has come about.

“I hope this will be a deterrent to other criminals and will encourage victims of sexual offences to come forward. Dorset Police takes all such cases very seriously and support is on hand for victims. There may be more of Collins’ victims yet to speak with police.
