A man who almost choked his pregnant partner, then pointed a knife at her face while she was holding their baby daughter has been jailed.
Plasterer Kevin Hattle, 31 had come home drunk on May 1 this year and became aggressive, Luton Crown Court was told on Friday.
Prosecutor, Miss Chatna Patel said: "His partner was two months pregnant and they had an eight month old daughter together.
"He put his hands round her throat and squeezed and she was struggling to breath. She grabbed at his face and kicked him to get him off her.
"Their daughter was crying so she picked her up and started to collect some things to leave the house. But when she was half way up the stairs she saw he had a knife.
"He grabbed her hair and yanked it so hard a large clump came out and then held the knife to her face.
"She managed to use her mobile phone to ring her aunt who could hear her screaming hysterically and the baby crying," continued the prosecutor.
Police were alerted and arrested him.
Hattle, of Devon Road, Luton, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and was jailed for eight months.
Jose Olivares-Chandler, defending said: "He appreciates he has a Jeckyll and Hyde personality and has started to come to term with the fact that he has a drink problem. He has begun counselling for that."
He urged the court to allow Hattle to be assessed for an alcohol treatment programme as an alternative to custody.
But Recorder Matthew Lowe, told Hattle: "I take the view that I would be failing in my public duty if I did not pass an immediate prison sentence for what you did that day."
