Luton based easyJet have agreed to foot the £15,000 bill so Luton can be decorated in festive lights this Christmas.

Earlier this year the council told Heart they weren't going to have the lights this Christmas because of budget cuts.

But today easyJet have said that along with the Love Luton campaign they'll make sure the traditional lights on George Street, Park Street and at the Town Hall do get put up.

Hugh Aitken is easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager- he told Heart:

"Christmas is a special time for everybody, we at easyJet are incredibly busy over Christmas flying people on holidays as well as making sure people get home and I think its a great chance to bring a bit of sparkle to Luton over Christmas and hopefully some orange sparkle within that"

Hazel Simmons, Leader of Luton Borough Council, said:

“The Council is currently having to work hard to find new ways of funding many important and valued services and the popular Christmas lights have been no exception.

"It’s absolutely fantastic that one of our most important companies has been able to step in and make sure the town center is again illuminated this festive season.”

So far the council haven't been able to find a local business to sponsor the firework display this bonfire night so there are no plans for it to go ahead.
