Fire hits naan bread factory in Dunstable on New Year's Day.

Fire crews from Dunstable and Toddington, together with an aerial platform team from Luton, were called to Honeytop Food factory in Woodside Industrial Estate in Dunstable on New Year’s Day following a fire in a large industrial bread oven in the centre of the building.

Dunstable Station Commander Mark Barter said: "The oven was not being used for production but was undergoing some sort of maintenance apparently when the fire started. Staff attempted to put the fire out but dialled 999 as they realised they needed the fire service. Our crews did an excellent job in containing the fire - it could have been much worse."

There were only a few people on duty at the factory as it was not open for production on New Year's Day and these were evacuated whilst the firefighting took place. The building has suffered smoke damage.

In total there were 20 firefighters and fire officers at the scene.
