Glider Pilot Dies In Crash

A pilot's died after his glider crashed into a field at Eaton Bray near Dunstable, Bedfordshire.

The East of England Ambulance Service were called to Harling Road shortly after 2.30pm on Monday 30 April 2012.

They tell us a fast response car attended the scene and they also called in the Air Ambulance from South Central Ambulance service.

The pilot has been named as Michael Teychenne, 65.  He lived in Copperkins Lane, Amersham, Buckinghamshire, and was a member of the London Gilding Club which is based on the Dunstable Downs.

Ambulance spokesman Gary Sanderson said: "First and foremost our thoughts are firmly with the man's family at this tragic time. It was evident that nothing could be done on our arrival and the man was pronounced dead shortly after."

Speaking on Monday afternoon, South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous said “I want to express my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man who was killed when his glider crashed in Eaton Bray this afternoon, and I will be looking to see that all lessons are learnt from this sad incident so that we can avoid any sad tragedy in future.”
