A game-based learning website designed by a Hertfordshire teacher is proving such a success that it has won a national award.

What2Learn is used by thousands of students across the county and is especially popular with young people who are out of school for prolonged periods because of illness.

Developed by John Rutherford, an ICT teacher at Marlborough School in St Albans, What2Learn recently won a top award at the Microsoft Innovative teachers’ Forum.

John has been telling Heart:

“What2Learn is a flexible and fun way to learn. Students can work on it at school or at home, teachers can track and monitor their progress and add their own topics, and it can be used across all aspects of the curriculum. On individuals days we can exceed 40,000 page views which is remarkable for an education-based programme.”
