19 October 2012, 06:00

Hertfordshire County council has released the names of ten primary schools they are proposing to expand in time for September next year.

It's after the county had one of the biggest growths in primary pupil numbers across England for the start of this school year.

Hertfordshire County Council is responsible for ensuring there are enough school places for all the county’s school aged children.

Primary schools identified for permanent expansion for 2013

Icknield Infant and Nursery, Letchworth Garden City
Lordship Farm Primary, Letchworth Garden City
Parkside Community Primary, Borehamwood
St Michael’s Woolmer Green VA C of E Primary, Welwyn
Samuel Lucas JMI, Hitchin
Sandridge, St Albans
Shepherd Primary, Rickmansworth
The Grove Infant & Nursery, Harpenden
The Grove Junior, Harpenden
Wilbury Junior, Letchworth Garden City

Frances Button, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Hertfordshire is a popular place to raise a family and we have worked hard to make sure that we can cope with an increase in both the birth rate and in new children moving into the county to live here just as they approach school age so that there are enough school places available for children as near as possible to their homes.

“We continue to work with schools, parents and the local community to ensure that each expansion is delivered in a cost effective and timely manner and provides suitable accommodation - now and in the future.”
