The RAF have confirmed two of their jets caused a very loud bang heard by hundreds of people across England.

The Typhoons were responding to an emergency call which turned out to be a false alarm.

Their going supersonic, just after 6pm on Thursday 12 April 2012 caused a sonic boom which was heard from Bath to Coventry.  There have also been reports of it being heard in Hertfordshire.

Jo, who lives at Hook Norton near Banbury, Oxfordshire, told us her whole house shook.

"I was putting my little girl to bed, or getting her ready, and we heard this huge bang and the house shook which terrified us.  We thought an explosion of some kind had happened."
