The Hitchin music festival Rhythms Of The World has been cancelled for 2013 after organisers failed to find a venue.

For the last five years its been held at Hitchin Priory on Tileshouse Street but after last years wet weather the owners of the venue decided it could no longer be held there.

Additional work had to be carried out to repair the Hitchin Priory grounds after the event.

Attendance was also very poor in 2012 in comparison to 2011 when it attracted more than 31,000 people.

Chair of the Trustees, Nick Boggon, said:

"After a lot of searching, we have been unable to secure a site in time to host the festival this year.

"We recognise this will be hugely disappointing news for many people – volunteers, festival-goers, performers and those businesses that generously and repeatedly support the event – but we have run out of time to find a venue and organise a high quality festival of the size and type Hitchin has come to expect from us.

"However, we are working hard to secure a venue for next year and are extremely confident there will be a cracking festival in 2014."
