An elderly woman has been raped by a man who broke into her flat in Felixstowe.
The victim contacted police shortly after 2am this morning (28 September) reporting a man had broken into her flat and sexually assaulted her.
Officers arrived at the scene along with paramedics who took her to Ipswich Hospital to be treated for a number of injuries. She remains there in a stable condition.
Senior Investigating Officer, Det Supt Simon Parkes, said: "We're still trying to identify the sequence of events that led up to this rape. We will be speaking to this lady once she has left hospital in order to obtain a description of her attacker. For the time being though, our appeal goes out to those people who were on Felixstowe high street between 1-3am on Sunday."
Crime scene investigators remain at the scene and officers will be conducting house-to-house enquiries throughout the day.
Anyone with information in connection with this rape is urged to contact Suffolk Police on 101.
