Canvey: Teen Arrested Over Fire

Police have arrested a 14-year-old boy following a fire in a house on Canvey Island.

He has been questioned on suspicion of committing arson with intent to endanger lives and has been released on bail until next month.

A woman in her 80s and a man in his 40s suffered shock and smoke inhalation after the fire broke out in the bedroom of their home on Sunday morning (28 July).

Three fire crews were called to the building on Mornington Road at 10am after being alerted by a neighbour.

An investigation is underway to find out how the fire started.
