The car belonged to 27-year-old Andrew Connolly who has told Heart he's devastated by what has happened and it's left him and his pregnant wife with no vehicle to get around.

The father-to-be is calling for the driver responsible to hand himself into police.

CCTV footage of the incident captured on a household camera has been released by Essex Police.

Pc Philip Moor, said: "The car was valued at £4,000 and was the victim's pride and joy. But he says it has been written off because of the cost of repairs.

"He is obviously very upset and has been going to great personal lengths to find out who was responsible. He has been doing his own local enquiries and has also contacted Ford dealers to try to find if the van has been booked in for repairs or the driver has bought replacement parts.

"We hope the video clip might help to identify the driver or the van and anyone with information should contact me immediately.

"We are also carrying out tests on wreckage left in the road in the hope that it might help us identify the vehicle."

Anyone with information should contact Pc Moor at Braintree police station by phoning 101 or 0300 333 4444 if calling form outside Essex.
