Firefighters wearing gas suits have been dealing with a chemical spillage in Purfleet.
Firefighters were called last night, just before 8pm.
Crews reported an unknown quantity of ortho phosphoric acid and hydrochloric acid was leaking from drums on a lorry.
Police closed Stonehouse Lane while the spillage was dealt with. Ambulance crews were also in attendance, but there were no reported injuries.
The lorry was carrying 360, 25 litre drums of chemical.
Crews were unmable to determine the exact source of the leak. Police arranged recovery of the lorry. It was taken away by a specialist cleaning company.
