The bodies of an elederly couple have been found in their Boxted home.
The couple were found after an elderly man dialled 999 to say he had shot his wife and planned to shoot himself.
Police received the call from the man believed to be Harold Ambrose, 82, on Saturday morning at about 6.35am, and armed police attended the scene at Chapel Road.
They discovered a man's body in the back garden, believed to be Mr Ambrose.
He had a single shotgun wound to the face.
On entering the house, a woman's body, believed to be 77-year-old Wendy Ambrose, was found in a chair in the lounge area of their house.
She had suffered two shotgun wounds, one to the face and another to the head.
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett, senior investigating officer, said: "The post mortem examinations have been completed and both died from their shotgun wounds.
"This was consistent with the evidence the forensic officers found at the scene and the initial telephone call to the police.
"I do not believe anyone else was involved in their deaths.
"Our inquires will continue and a report will be submitted to HM Coroner in due course. The house will remain under police control while other searches are on going.''
