An Essex Police officer has appeared in court charged with making and having indecent images of children.
Chief Inspector Ben Hodder, who is 34 and from Grays, faced two counts of making indecent images of a child when he appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court, a court official said.
The images were found on a MacBook laptop computer and an iPhone.
The first alleged offence dates back to 2010 while the second is said to have happened last year.
Hodder has been suspended from his role as divisional commander for Thurrock.
Due to his policing connections, the case has been transferred to Snaresbrook Crown Court in East London.
Hodder has been released on bail until his next court appearance in December.
