Free Parking To Help Shops

To help businesses, during ongoing road improvements in Chelmsford, shoppers are being offered some free nearby parking.

There is now free parking for 30 minutes after 5pm in the Parkway car park, and free parking for an hour at any time in the Moulsham Street car park (off George Street).

Drivers can still access the rest of Moulsham Street via New London Road and New Writtle Street, and via Grove Road and Hamlet Road. There is no vehicle access between Parkway and the old Bay Horse.

Signed traffic diversion routes are in place. In addition, none of the designated on-street parking bays are affected by the work and will remain in place when the work is finished.

Chelmsford Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Safer Communities, Councillor Ian Grundy said: “There is full pedestrian access to all of Moulsham Street at all times during the work, with access to shops and businesses being kept clear. The street offers a truly original range of great independent shops. We encourage everyone to come and visit the shops and see how the works are progressing to get an idea of what the street will look like when it’s finished.”

Among the improvements we will see pavements widened, new paving and a completely re-surfaced road.
