The Highways Agency has thanked drivers for their patience after part of the M11 was closed from Stansted on Saturday.
Over-running roadworks meant the northbound stretch from J8 to J10 remained closed all morning causing long delays.
A spokesperson for the Highways Agency said:
"We'd like to thank road users affected by the roadworks which overran on the M11 northbound on Saturday for their patience.
"An equipment failure led to problems restoring the road surface for the planned reopening time in the morning.
"The road was fully reopened shortly after midday Saturday."
