Southend: CCTV Released In Rape Investigation

Essex Police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to identify as they believe he can help them with an ongoing rape investigation in Southend.

A 22-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside a house in the early hours of Sunday 21 July by a man she had met just hours earlier at Southend's Chameleon nightclub.

Police release CCTV in rape investigationInvestigating Officer, Dc Lorraine Lumb, said: "Since this incident occurred, we have been carrying out a wide range of enquiries and reviewed of hours of CCTV footage from inside and outside the nightclub. This has taken several weeks.

"We have also been working closely with the victim to try and build up a clear picture of what happened to her in the early hours of that Sunday morning as well as establishing the circumstances leading up to the assault.

"We are releasing these two CCTV images of a man who we want to initially identify and then speak to as a key witness. He was at the nightclub on that Saturday night, Sunday morning and we believe he struck up a conversation with the woman. We would appeal for him or his friends or family to contact us."

The woman has been unable to provide police with a description of her attacker.

The man pictured in the CCTV is wearing a light-blue shirt and has light hair.
