Southend: Student Charged With Murder

A student's been charged with the murder of a man in Southend.

24-year-old Hassan Mohammed from Camberwell, south east London, was found dead in York Road at about 7pm on Monday.

He died on Tuesday morning.

The provisional results of a post-mortem examination found he died of blood loss as a result of two stab wounds.

Last night (Saturday) 18-year-old Tajwar Alam, from Tottenham, was charged with his murder.

He is due to appear before magistrates at Southend on Monday and is also charged with possession of a bladed instrument.

A 17-year-old boy from north London has also been charged with firearms offences and possession of cannabis with intent to supply and will also appear before the town's magistrates.

A 17-year-old boy from Southend who was arrested on Friday night is still helping police with their enquiries and remains in custody at Southend police station.

Another 17-year-old boy from north London, who was arrested on Wednesday, has been released on bail pending further police enquiries for possession of offensive weapon and assisting an offender but will face no further action in relation to the murder.

Six males aged between 17 and 19 who were arrested on Monday have also been released with no further action in relation to the murder, police added.
