Thurrock: Free Transport Scrapped
21 March 2014, 00:00
Free transport for Thurrock children at religious school will no longer be provided.
The council is scrapping the service following a major consultation last year.
They have already had to withstand £30 million worth of cuts and are facing at least that much again so are looking at ways of saving money.
Students starting school this September will have to pay £5.88 a day or £1,117 a school year.
Students who are already attending school will be offered a 50% discount - £2.89 a day or £550 a year.
The council says they will help those who can show they absolutely can't afford it.
