Colchester: Update On James Attfield Murder
A man arrested in connection with the murder of James Attfield has been released on police bail.
James Attfield was found seriously injured with over 100 stab wounds in Castle Park off Guildford Road shortly before 6am on Saturday, March 29. He died a short time later at the scene.
Officers are piecing together the 33-year-old student’s movements between 10pm Friday, March 28 when he left the River Lodge Public House and the time when he was found injured. They are also attempting to identify three people depicted in efits and a number of people caught on CCTV who they need to eliminate from their enquiries. They have now identified the man in image number 10 and spoken to him.
On Wednesday, April 23, a 27-year-old man from Colchester was arrested in connection with the murder. He and a 27-year-old woman, also from the town, are now on police bail until Friday, May 9 pending further enquiries.
Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Simon Werrett, said: "We still have 20 people who we need to speak to and potentially eliminate having released their images from the CCTV. In particular, we are keen to gather further information about the group of three people in images 5 and 5a. We would like to hear from anyone who saw this trio at any time during the evening but in particular between midnight and 2.15am.
"We would also repeat our appeal for anyone with information about James’ death to contact the enquiry team. There is a reward of up to £5,000 on offer for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person, or persons, responsible.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Essex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
