A 72 year old woman is in a serious condition in hospital after she was hit by a car which drove off without stopping in Southend.
The woman was using a zebra crossing on the B1015 Sutton Road, at the junction with the A1159 Eastern Avenue, when it happened at around 2:15pm yesterday (7 November). The red car which collided with her failed to stop.
Sgt Damon Bainbridge, from the Essex Police Serious Collision Unit, said: "Police and ambulance paramedics went to the scene and the lady was taken to hospital in Southend where she is currently in a serious but stable condition.
"The car did not stop after the collision and we urgently need to trace the driver. If anyone witnessed what happened or they know of someone who drives a red car which is now damaged I would ask them to get in touch. Alternatively we would ask the driver of this car to contact us."
Anyone with information is asked to call PC 1199 Gorbutt at the Serious Collision Unit on 101 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
