Rapid UK Flies Out to Crisis

The Devon based rescue organisation has sent experts out to Haiti to help with the search for survivors.

Tens of thousands of people were killed in Tuesday's earthquake and millions more are in need of aid but agencies are already warning that supplies are running out.

Rapid UK is among the British organisations offering help.

A team of four left last night at around 6pm, another five are setting off today. They are initially flying to neighbouring Domican Republic before journeying into Haiti, where they will evaluate the situation and meet with other search and rescue teams.

CEO Clive Hodges has been speaking to Heart 'we expect them to do an assessment of what the search and rescue challenges are, how many people we should try and get into the country and what equipment we will need,' but he added 'the communications are very difficult, so we're not expecting to hear too much too quickly.'
