Elmbridge Court plans on hold

Plans for a multi-million pound scheme to improve the transport route between Cheltenham and Gloucester have been put on hold.

Gloucestershire County Council made a bid last year for over £22 million to fund a scheme called 'the Loop', which included a new park-and-ride site at Elmbridge Court and more bus lanes between the two areas.

But the council have been told by the Department of Transport their bid won't be looked at for now, because of all the budget cuts being made by the coalition Government.

Councillor Stan Waddington, cabinet member for transport, told Heart:

“It looks like plans to upgrade the Elmbridge Court roundabout are yet another casualty of Labour’s debt.  We will keep looking for ways to progress this important improvement – but I would think it will be some years before the national economy is in a position to fund this sort of project.”
