Festive drink-drive crackdown launched
Drink-drive over christmas and you could be moments away from causing a lifetime of misery.
That's the warning from Gloucestershire Police as they launch this year's festive crackdown against drunk and drug drivers.
Police plan to target known offenders and patrol drinking-driving hotspots during a month long campaign.
Last Christmas, every 20 minutes, night and day, a motorist was breath tested in Gloucestershire and there were 70 arrests, nearly half of those were under-25's.
Inspector Keith Fagan, of Gloucestershire Constabulary's Road Safety and Traffic Management Department, said:
"It is encouraging that Gloucestershire drivers are getting wiser about drink-diving and its dire consequences. However, we would still like to see a further drop in the numbers of younger drink-drivers.
Anybody who suspects someone of driving under the influence of drink or drugs is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
