Police investigating a shooting at in Watford last week, returned to the scene of the crime for first week anniversary checks during the early hours of this morning.

Police were on the scene between 12.30am and 1.30am to talk to members of the public who may have been out and about on the streets around the time of the incident. In total they spoke to approximately 25 people and handed out leaflets appealing for information regarding the incident.

A 55-year-old man from Watford sustained gunshot wounds following this crime. He remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

Police are now appealing for two people, believed to have been close to the junction of Moor View Road and Vicarage Road when the shooting happened, to come forward.  It is believed that these people may have seen at least two people running from the scene of the crime.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Collin, from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “I would particularly like to speak to the two people reported to be in Vicarage Road around the time of the incident. You are not in trouble in anyway; we simply believe you could provide us with information which could prove to be crucial to our investigation.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything during the early hours of the 27th. There would have been a loud bang which could have woken you. Perhaps you looked out of your window and saw something or maybe you were walking or driving nearby and witnessed suspicious behaviour? Any information you provide, no matter how small, could help us to bring those responsible for this crime to justice.”

He added: “This type of crime is very unusual for Watford. I would also like to re-assure local people that we are determined to leave no stone unturned in our pursuit of those responsible.”
