Charity Cricket Match To Honour Dale

A mother, who lost her son last December, has organised a charity cricket match in memory of him.

18 year old Dale Tennent-Butler was taking part in a football game when he collapsed. A post-mortem revealed his death was linked to Sudden Arhythmic Death Syndrome, otherwise known as sudden cardiac death.

Today (Monday 28th) a charity cricket match is being held at Langelybury Cricket Club in Hunton Bridge near Abbots Langley to raise money so more people can be saved from this.

48 year old Angela Butler, who lives in Hemel Hempstead, wants to raise £9000 so other children at Kings Langley School, where Dale was a pupil, can undergo heart screening.

So far she has raised £1900 online, with a further £1000 registered with CRY in Dale’s memory:

“Up to 32 young people a week in England and Wales die of this. If people were screened in schools and leisure centres then with a beating heart you can see if there is an abnormality.”

Angela and her Husband Ian, along with sibling’s Lee and Vicci, have been receiving help from CRY – which stands for Cardiac Risk in the Young. CRY is a counselling service that matches you with a counsellor that has gone through a similar situation.

For Angela, it’s an invaluable service:

“It’s helped me enormously to help me to realise that I’m not going mad and everything I feel and the anger I feel is quite normal. There is no normal grief curve and it can chuck you a curve ball at anytime. You can think you are coping and then it just goes horribly wrong.”

The ladies cricket game starts at 12pm, followed by another match at 2pm. Later in the afternoon there will be a raffle and live music.
