Police are asking people to search sheds and garages as they hunt for a vulnerable pensioner who's disappeared in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

Alan Spray (right) - from Hatfield, Herts, went missing from an address in Verulam Road, St Albans at around 8.10pm on Saturday 30 July 2011.

He's described as white, approximately 5ft 9in tall, is balding on top with grey hair to the side and wears glasses. He was described as wearing a brown and blue checked short sleeve shirt and beige trousers. He may be carrying a book.

Police are asking anyone who has seen Alan to contact the police via Hertfordshire's non-emergency number 101.

Missing man from St Albans

Detective Inspector Mike West, leading the search for Alan, said "We have been conducting extensive searches since Alan went missing, as well as asking for assistance from colleagues in Bedfordshire Police where he also has links in Bedford and Kempston. However, we believe there is a possibility that he is still in the area from which he went missing, so are asking residents to check sheds and garages or anywhere that someone could hide within a five-mile radius of Verulam Road.

"I would also like to appeal to anyone who thinks they have seen a man matching Alan’s description to contact police. His family are extremely concerned for his welfare and keen for any news on him."
