A 35 year old man from London has been sentenced to five and a half years in custody at the Central Criminal Court in London after being found guilty to raping a woman in Watford earlier this year.

Jason Mc Intyre of Stockwell Road, London was found guilty of the rape on a female which took place in a flat in Watford on February 28th.

Detective Inspector Steve Keating from the Sexual Offences Investigation Team at Hertfordshire Constabulary, who led the investigation, said:

“Hertfordshire Constabulary is committed to investigating Rape and sexual offences and is one of the first police forces in the country to have a unit of dedicated and specialist officers to investigate such offences. Today’s sentence sends out a clear message that we take allegations of rape and sexual assault extremely seriously and are relentless in conducting a thorough investigation into every allegation we receive.

“The conviction of Jason Mc Intyre today reflects the severity and the consequences of his crime which have caused distress and devastation to his victim."

Detective Inspector Keating believes that there could potentially be further victims in different areas of England.

He added: “Jason Mc Intyre is originally from the North East of England and followed Newcastle United football team across the country to watch games so there may be potential victims out there. I would urge anyone who thinks they may have been a victim to contact either ourselves or confidential referral centre on 0808 178 4448 – this is a 24-hour service.
